Neurological origins for the law of diminishing returns...

An interesting article on Scientific American on the neurological origins of the law of diminishing returns. I suspect that there might even be a physical reason. One can see that much of economics could have a thermodynamic origin - ie. conserveration of energy. I wonder whether there might be a physical link to diminishing returns too...
